NOTICE is hereby given that affidavits of candidacy for the election of township officers may be filed with the Town Clerk at the Clerk’s Office at 4375 Shady Lane, Eveleth, MN 55734 beginning Tuesday, August 3, 2010 through Tuesday, August 17, 2010, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. to Noon. The filing fee is $2. Offices to be elected are:

NOTICE TO FAYAL VOTERS
Absentee ballots for the Primary Election to be held August 10, 2010 are available at the St. Louis County Auditor’s Office in Virginia. If you need an absentee ballot, call 218-749-7104 or stop by the St. Louis County Auditor’s Office, Northland Building, 300 South 5th Avenue, Virginia, MN.
Absentee ballots by mail will be available at the St. Louis County Courthouse, 100 North 5th Avenue West, Room 214, Duluth, MN or call 218-726-2385. You must first fill out an absentee ballot application to obtain an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots will not be available at the Fayal Clerk’s office.

FAYAL ORDINANCE #95-3 ANIMAL CONTROL ORDINANCE REQUIRES ALL DOGS & CATS OVER THE AGE OF 6 MONTHS TO HAVE RABIES VACCINATION AND HAVE A FAYAL ANIMAL LICENSE. LICENSES ARE AVAILALABLE AT THE CLERKS OFFICE FOR $5 WITH PROOF OF VACCINATION.
TOWN BOARD MEETINGS ARE HELD THE FIRST AND THIRD TUESDAYS AT 7:00 PM IN THE FAYAL TOWN HALL.
Planning Committee meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the town hall.
Public Utilities Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the town hall.
Fire Department business meeting is the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm, in the fire hall
The Fire Department has openings for 3 members. Applicants must live within a 10 minute response time from the Fayal Fire hall, be at least 18 years old, and pass a physical and written test. Applications are available at the Fayal Clerks Office or any FD member.

Fayal Township is a township located in St. Louis County, Minnesota with a total area of 34.5 square miles. Fayal Township is home to ten lakes, which equal a total area of 8.77% of the township. As of the census of 2000, there are 1,906 people, 769 households, and 586 families residing in the township. The median age is 45 years, and the median household income is $50,665.
Fayal Township was named for the most western island in the central group of the Azores and was organized in 1896, following the beginning of important mining operations and explorations. A petition was circulated among residents in the congressional township 57-17 to organize the township under chapter ten of the General Statutes of Minnesota, 1878. The petition was dated February 4, 1896, and was filed with the county auditor. On February 6, 1896 the county commissioners approved the organization of Fayal and passed a resolution granting the petition and ordering an election to be held on February 25, 1896. The election was held, and the township organization was legally brought to completion. The population in 1900 was 1,016.
